AG Derek Schmidt provides updated guidance on law enforcement duties and authorities during new COVID-19 landscape

Release Date: May 28, 2020

TOPEKA – (May 28, 2020) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today provided law enforcement agencies and county prosecutors statewide with updated legal guidance to assist in performing their duties while the latest emergency declaration related to the COVID-19 pandemic is in effect.

The updated guidance is in the form of an Addendum 2 to the original Memorandum the attorney general provided March 24 in response to questions from law enforcement agencies and officials about their duties and authorities under emergency-powers statutes. A previous Addendum was issued April 8. Today’s Addendum 2 updates the current legal framework in light of changes in the most recent proclamation of a state of disaster emergency issued by the governor.
