Consumer Alert: AG Derek Schmidt publishes public list of door-to-door peddlers banned from doing business in Kansas

Release Date: Nov 14, 2019

TOPEKA – (November 14, 2019) – Kansans now can access a public listing of door-to-door peddlers who have been prohibited by court order from doing business in the state, Attorney General Derek Schmidt said today.

The Kansas Legislature passed a law in 2016 making it a crime for a person to violate a court order prohibiting that person from engaging in door-to-door sales. The attorney general’s office for the first time today is publishing on its consumer protection website a list of those individuals and businesses banned from door-to-door sales in Kansas.

The list contains 24 peddlers banned in Kansas as of today; it will be updated as new peddlers are banned or if peddlers are removed from the list. Each entry also contains a link to the court order that banned the door-to-door peddler from Kansas. The list is now available at

"Deceptive or otherwise illegal door-to-door sales are among the most common consumer protection problems reported to our office," Schmidt said. "This new listing provides quick access for Kansans to learn which violators have been so egregious that a court has prohibited them from continuing to operate in Kansas."

To date, the attorney general has secured one conviction under the law. In May, a Topeka man was sentenced to serve more than four years in prison for that charge, as well as other criminal charges brought by the Shawnee County District Attorney.

Kansans who have received a door-to-door sales pitch by an entity named on this list should contact their local police department or sheriff or contact the attorney general’s Consumer Protection Division by phone at (800) 432-2310 or online at
