Dodge City man sentenced to 7 1/2 years for drug charges

DODGE CITY – (November 4, 2014) – A Dodge City man has been sentenced to 7  1/2 years in prison for possession and distribution of Cathinone (Khat), Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

 Liban Hersi Ali, 42, was sentenced yesterday to 92 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections by Judge Van Z. Hampton in Ford County District Court. Ali pleaded guilty in February to possession with intent to distribute more than 1 kilogram of Cathinone (Khat) and distribution of less than 3.5 grams of Cathinone (Khat).

 The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Dodge City Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.  Former Assistant Attorney General Greg Benefiel prosecuted the case and Assistant Attorney General Steve Wilhoft of Schmidt’s office conducted the sentencing.
