Attorney General Schmidt hosts national consumer protection conference

Release Date: Aug 01, 2011

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – (August 1, 2011) – The national organization representing consumer protection investigators from across the United States and Canada begins its annual meeting today in Kansas City.

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s office is the host agency for the conference of the North American Consumer Protection Investigators (NACPI).

“We’re proud to play host to these consumer protection professionals,” said Schmidt, who opened the three-day conference with a welcome address this morning. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase part of Kansas, and it’s consistent with our ongoing effort to strengthen our commitment to protecting Kansas consumers.”

In addition to Attorney General Schmidt’s opening remarks, the conference will include presentations from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Kansas Highway Patrol, assistant attorneys general and representatives of the Kansas courts. It will focus on helping consumer protection investigators from state and local consumer protection units from around the country strengthen their skills.

During his six months in office, Attorney General Schmidt has made strengthening the consumer protection division a priority for his administration. Earlier in his career, Schmidt served as an assistant attorney general for consumer protection.

The consumer protection division of the attorney general’s office has done much of the organizing work in preparation for the NACPI conference. The conference will run through Wednesday at the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, Kan. More information about the conference is available at http://www.nacpi.org/meetings/annualmeetings.htm.
