Legal Assistant – Special Litigation/Constitutional Issues

The Office of the Kansas Attorney General (OAG) is accepting applications to fill a Legal Assistant position in our Special Litigation and Constitutional Issues Division to perform paraprofessional legal and administrative support functions. Attorneys

Attorneys employed with the OAG are designated as Deputy Attorneys General, Assistant Attorneys General, or similar. Our attorneys specialize in the practice of various fields of law including administrative, antitrust, civil litigation, criminal litigation, employment, and environmental to name just a few.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited law school
  • Admission to and membership in good standing with the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas
  • Admission to or eligibility for admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit

Special Agents

Commissioned law enforcement personnel who conduct civil and/or criminal investigations and perform other law enforcement duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current or past full-time law enforcement certification
  • Three (3) years of law enforcement experience

Investigators

Civilian personnel who gather information, conduct interviews and manage a caseload of civil matters or complaints. No law enforcement duties are associated with these positions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business administration, communications, criminal justice, or related field(s)
  • Related professional or technical experience may be substituted for the required college study

Information Technology (IT)

IT is critical to the efficient and effective operations of the OAG. Areas of specialty include database administration, network monitoring and maintenance, IT security and end-user support.

Administration/Clerical

Administrative and clerical staff are needed to support the mission of the OAG. These include positions such as accountants, legal assistants and clerical positions with increasing levels of complexity and responsibility. Many of these positions provide support to the administrative, investigative and/or legal functions of the agency.

In accordance with K.S.A. 75-3111 and K.S.A. 75-2935(1)(j), officers and employees in the OAG are in the unclassified service of the Kansas Civil Service Act. Unclassified positions are not subject to the entitlements provided to employees in the classified service as defined by the Kansas Civil Service Act. Employees of the OAG serve at the pleasure of the Attorney General and are terminable at-will.
