Private Detective Licensing
In 1972, the State of Kansas began licensing and regulating private detectives and private detective agencies doing business in Kansas. The Attorney General regulates more than 100 licensed agencies, 250 detectives working for agencies and 125 independent private detectives.
Attorney General Kris Kobach provides the following information to assist individuals and agencies when applying for or renewing private detective licenses. If you have additional questions, call the Licensing Unit at (785) 296-4240 or email us at ksagpi@ag.ks.gov.
