Delphos man sentenced to 7 years for physical mistreatment of dependent adults

Release Date: Apr 12, 2018

CONCORDIA – (April 12, 2018) – A Delphos man was sentenced yesterday to more than seven years in prison for physical mistreatment of five dependent adults, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Thomas James Tholstrup, 25, pleaded guilty last month in Cloud County District Court to one count of attempted aggravated criminal sodomy and four counts of mistreatment of a dependent adult. Each of the five victims was an elderly, dependent adult. Chief Judge Kim W. Cudney yesterday sentenced Tholstrup to 91 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections. Cudney also ordered Tholstrup to lifetime registration as a sex offender and lifetime post-release supervision. Tholstrup agreed to surrender his license as a Certified Nurse Aide, and he will not be allowed to work in the healthcare field for the duration of his sentence and post-release supervision.

The crimes were committed in Clyde between February 2016 and July 2017.

The case stemmed from an investigation by the attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Division and the Cloud County Sheriff’s Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Ed Brancart of Schmidt’s office.
