AG Derek Schmidt to host Juneteenth commemoration event

TOPEKA – (June 17, 2021) – The Kansas Attorney General’s Office will host a Juneteenth commemoration event this Friday, June 18, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Hall, 2nd Floor Auditorium.

Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day,” is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Attorney General Derek Schmidt hosted a similar event in 2019. No event was held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event will feature guest speaker Richard Mabion, of Kansas City, Kan., a Vietnam Veteran, an award-winning entrepreneur and a leader in sustainability efforts.

Prior to Mabion’s lecture, there will be a reception with individually wrapped refreshments and bottled water. The event is open to the public and members of the media.
