TOPEKA – (April 30, 2021) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt issued the following statement today following a ruling by the Kansas Supreme Court in the case of Tillman and Fleetwood v. Goodpasture, upholding the state’s statute abolishing “wrongful birth” claims:

“I am pleased we have successfully defended this important statute enacted by the Legislature. In Kansas, the birth of a child should be cause for celebration, not for the law to award damages because the child was 'wrongfully' born.”
