Pottawatomie County man found guilty of mistreatment of an elder person

Release Date: Sep 04, 2018

WASHINGTON, Kan. – (September 4, 2018) – A Pottawatomie County man was found guilty today of mistreatment of an elder person, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Chris Eugene Sauvage, 55, of Havensville, pleaded no contest today in Washington County District Court to one felony count of mistreatment of an elder person. The case stemmed from an investigation by the attorney general’s Fraud and Abuse Litigation Division which discovered that between May 2014 and February 2015, Sauvage acted as durable power of attorney for his father, who resided in Washington County, and spent his father’s money for unauthorized purchases for himself. As part of the plea, Sauvage agreed to pay $9,938.57 in restitution to his father’s estate.

District Judge Kim W. Cudney took the plea and scheduled sentencing for October 2 at 9 a.m.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Paul Brothers of Schmidt’s office.
