LA CROSSE – (September 22, 2017) – A Rush County woman was found guilty yesterday of mistreatment of an elder person, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.
Betty Sue Woods, 70, pleaded guilty yesterday in Rush County District Court to one felony count of mistreatment of an elder person. The case stemmed from an investigation by the Rush County Sheriff’s Office which discovered that between March 2015 and September 2016, Woods acted as durable power of attorney for two elder persons and spent their money for unauthorized purchases.
District Judge Bruce Gatterman took the plea and scheduled sentencing for November 16 at 9:30 a.m.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Paul Brothers of Schmidt’s office.
