TOPEKA – (March 17, 2017) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today issued the following statement in response to the Kansas Supreme Court’s decision approving the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s issuance of a permit to Sunflower Electric Power Corporation for construction of the “Holcomb 2” electric generating unit in Finney County:
“The Kansas Supreme Court’s decision today should clear the final state-law impediment to construction of the Holcomb 2 power plant in Finney County. I am hopeful the change in administration in Washington, D.C., also will make possible federal approval for the project. At the attorney general’s office, we have been proud to stand with economic investment and growth for Southwest Kansas throughout the years of legal disputes, and we are pleased with the outcome. We extend our gratitude to all who have demonstrated enormous patience and determination to make this project a reality.”
The attorney general’s office provided the successful legal defense of KDHE’s decision to issue the permit. Today’s Supreme Court decision in Sierra Club v. Mosier is available at http://bit.ly/2mbpX3t.
