INDEPENDENCE – (June 4, 2015) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today filed formal criminal charges against Alejandro Arturo Garcia-Garcia, a.k.a. Alex Garcia, a.k.a. Alejandro Garcia, 22, who was arrested last week near Liberty.
Schmidt filed one count of attempted capital murder, one count of kidnapping, one count of burglary and one count of interference with law enforcement. These charges all are related to alleged crimes occurring in Kansas only. The attempted capital murder charge is in connection with an alleged shooting at a Montgomery County sheriff's deputy.
The Kansas Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case against Mr. Garcia-Garcia at the request of the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office. Two additional persons apprehended in connection with the case are pending extradition to Oklahoma. The attorney general’s office is not handling their potential prosecutions.
Garcia-Garcia remains in custody in the Montgomery County Jail on $2 million bond. He is scheduled to appear on the charges above on June 25 at 9 a.m. in Montgomery County District Court.
