Marion County man sentenced to more than 14 years for child sex crimes

MARION – (April 20, 2015) – A Marion County man was sentenced today to more than 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to child sex crimes, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

 Kenneth Newell, 47, Marion, was sentenced to 177 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections by Chief Judge Michael Powers in Marion County District Court. Newell pleaded guilty in March to two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under 14 years of age. The crimes occurred in March 2014.

 The case was investigated by the Marion Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Exploited and Missing Child Unit in Wichita. Assistant Attorney General Melissa Johnson of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.
