TOPEKA – (May 1, 2014) – Roofers who have registered with the attorney general’s office can now begin renewing their registrations for the 2015 fiscal year, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said today.
A new state law passed in 2013 requires roofing contractors operating in Kansas to register with the attorney general’s office annually. In the first year, more than 700 roofers have completed the registration process. Those registrations expire on June 30, at the end of the state’s fiscal year. Renewal applications are now available on the attorney general’s website at www.ag.ks.gov/roofing. Renewal applications must be postmarked by June 30 to keep registration certificates in good standing from July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2015.
“Kansans are becoming more informed about this new law,” Schmidt said, “and they have an expectation that roofing contractors will follow the law and maintain a current registration certificate. Roofers should get their renewal applications in soon to be sure their registration remains active.”
Schmidt also reminded Kansans having roof repairs done to be sure their roofer is properly registered. Consumers should request a copy of their roofer’s registration certificate and verify its authenticity by checking the registry on the attorney general’s website at www.InYourCornerKansas.org or by calling (800) 432-2310.
