AG Schmidt: Dispose of unused medicine on October 26

Release Date: Oct 18, 2013

TOPEKA – (October 18, 2013) – Unused medications can be safely disposed at locations throughout the state during the semi-annual National Drug Take-Back Day on October 26, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

“Safely disposing of unused medications lowers the risk of accidental or intentional misuse,” Schmidt said. “Kansans should take advantage of this opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and help prevent these drugs from falling into the wrong hands.”

Local law enforcement agencies, in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, will be collecting unused medications on Saturday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Locations can be found by visiting the Attorney General’s website at www.ag.ks.gov.

Since the program began in 2010, Kansans have turned in more than 17 tons of medications.
