AG Schmidt announces National Consumer Protection Week events

TOPEKA – (February 26, 2013) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today announced his office will commemorate National Consumer Protection Week, March 3-9 by providing consumers opportunities to fight identity theft by destroying personal documents and conducting consumer education programs throughout the state.

“One of the core missions of our office is to protect Kansas consumers,” Schmidt said. “During National Consumer Protection Week, we are making a special effort to educate consumers on ways they can protect themselves from scams and identity theft – including safe disposal of personal documents.”

Free document destruction services will be available at 11 locations over the course of the week. Additionally, Attorney General Schmidt will be making consumer protection presentations to three local civic organizations. The schedule for the week is as follows:
