Weir man sentenced to 7 years on meth charges

Michael BartonCOLUMBUS – (October 15, 2012) – A Weir man was sentenced today to 7 years in prison after pleading no contest in July to manufacturing methamphetamine, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Michael W. Barton, 36, was sentenced to 84 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections by Judge Oliver Kent Lynch in Cherokee County District Court. Barton pleaded no contest to the charge on July 13.

The charge stemmed from an investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Assistant Attorney General Steve Wilhoft of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.
