Release Date: Apr 13, 2018

Outstanding Victim Service Organization Award: Sexually Abused Children’s Relief Endeavor (SACRED), represented by board member Jody Albers.TOPEKA – (April 13, 2018) – The Sexually Abused Children’s Relief Endeavor (SACRED) was recognized for its service to crime victims during this week’s Crime Victims’ Rights Conference in Topeka.

The organization was presented the Outstanding Victim Service Organization Award by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt during an awards ceremony yesterday.

SACRED, based in Overland Park, was founded by John and Carol D’Attoma in 2009 after their granddaughter was sexually abused by her biological father. The organization is dedicated to assisting families in immediate financial need due to child sexual abuse, and works closely with accredited child advocacy agencies. Applications for assistance are accepted only from accredited child advocacy agencies on behalf of a family in need. In 2017, SACRED assisted 45 families with 113 children with grants totaling more than $88,000.

SACRED’s funding is generated from many individual contributions, a few foundation grants and fundraising activities, such as an annual auction and 5K run. They have no employees and minimal operating expenses, allowing them to dedicate nearly all of the funds raised to families in need.

The Kansas Crime Victims’ Rights Conference was hosted by Attorney General Schmidt and Governor Jeff Colyer. The conference featured a number of speakers and trainers focused on raising awareness of emerging crimes and offering new approaches to respond to enduring crimes, such as child abuse, domestic violence and human trafficking.
